India WASH Fund

Intellecap, with support from USAID, is setting up the India WASH Fund to provide affordable, secured and structured debt to SMEs operating in India's water and sanitation sector. Our objective is to promote the adoption of positive water stewardship practices, improve access to sanitation and support local livelihoods by enabling India's private sector to participate in the national mission to provide universal access to clean drinking water and in responsibly discharging wastewater.

India WASH Fund will be a USD 15-30 mn facility providing blended capital to WASH SMEs. The Fund is being structured as a Social Impact Fund (Category I Alternate Investment Fund), registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India. The Fund will make investments in SMEs operating in four key segments including (a) Decentralized water treatment and distribution, (b) Construction and O&M of Public Toilets, (c) Construction / O&M of FSTPs and (d) Construction / O&M of decentralized STPs. The Fund will also provide Technical Assistance to potential / existing investees.

India WASH Fund seeks to blend commercial, muted return and grant capital from domestic as well as international sources to provide affordable debt to WASH SMEs. Intellecap anticipates that learnings from the credit experience of the Fund will catalyze greater capital flows into the WASH sector by establishing creditworthiness of SMEs operating in this space.
